Delicate but determined, Ficus pumila ‘Green Sunny’ is a fast-growing, small-leaved climber or trailer with vibrant green foliage and a softly textured finish. This compact cultivar of the Creeping Fig is ideal for hanging pots, terrariums, or trained over moss poles and trellises indoors. Its dainty leaves and trailing stems bring a soft, natural feel to any corner, and with the right care, it can become a lush, leafy feature with minimal fuss.

Scientific Name
Ficus pumila ‘Green Sunny’ (pumila = Latin for “dwarf” or “small” – referring to the plant’s petite leaves)

Common Name
Green Sunny Creeping Fig, Climbing Fig, Ficus ‘Green Sunny’

Origin
Species native to East Asia, particularly China, Japan, and Vietnam. ‘Green Sunny’ is a cultivated variety selected for its compact, bright foliage and indoor versatility.

Light
Prefers bright, indirect light. Can tolerate some lower light, though growth may slow and become leggy. Avoid strong midday sun, which may scorch the foliage.

Water
Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Likes consistent moisture but doesn’t tolerate soggy soil. Water less frequently in winter.

Humidity
Enjoys moderate to high humidity. Will benefit from occasional misting, especially in heated or dry rooms. Also well-suited to closed or open terrariums.

Soil
Use a free-draining, peat-free indoor potting mix. A little added perlite or sand helps improve aeration. Repot when roots begin to crowd the pot, typically every 1–2 years.

Food
Feed every 4 weeks during spring and summer with a diluted, balanced houseplant fertiliser. Pause feeding in winter.

Temperature
Best kept between 16–24°C. Protect from cold draughts and do not allow temperatures to fall below 10°C.

Pet-safe
No – Ficus pumila is toxic if ingested by pets or humans.

Sprouts Top Tips
Great for terrariums or high shelves – you can train it to climb or let it trail naturally. Prune regularly to shape and manage growth, especially if grown in a confined space.
