This cute and compact succulent is often known as the 'Zebra Plant' thanks to the stripes created across its deep green leaves by white raised freckles. Growing outwards from the centre of the foliage, these sturdy leaves look fabulous in a nice bright window seat, and are happy with little input from you, as the plant prefers its soil to entirely dry out between waters. With its low care needs and stunning geometric outline, this plant is ideal for plant novices and avid succulent collectors alike, so if you just can't tear your eyes away from its succulent structure, this may be the perfect addition to your home.

Scientific Name
Haworthiopsis attenuata ‘Enon’ (Looks like Haworth's thinned plant, cultivar: enon)

Synonyms: Aloe attenuata, Apicra attenuata, Catevala attenuata, Haworthia attenuata, Haworthia pumila subsp. attenuata

This plant has now been reclassified into the Haworthiopsis genus; before this it was known as Haworthia attenuata for many years. Following DNA analysis in the early 2010s, it's know known as Haworthiopsis attenuata.

Common Name(s)
Zebra Plant, Enon Haworthia, Zebra Haworthia

Origin
Native to Cape Provinces of South Africa, this plant thrives in arid, rocky environments.

Light
This Haworthiopsis will love a bright spot, with mostly indirect light, but it can adapt to a few hours of direct sun too. An east-facing window may just be the perfect spot for this plant!

Water
Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water thoroughly, ensuring excess water drains away, and never let the plant sit in standing water. During the active growing season (spring and summer), water moderately; reduce watering during the autumn and winter months when growth slows.

Humidity
This plant can adapt to average household humidity levels. Avoid high humidity environments, as excessive moisture can lead to root rot.

Soil
Plant in a well-draining succulent or cactus potting mix. Adding perlite or coarse sand can improve drainage. Repotting is typically needed every 2-3 years or when the plant outgrows its container.

Food
Fertilise sparingly during the growing season with a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser diluted to half strength, approximately once a month. Avoid fertilising during the dormant winter period.

Temperature
Thrives in temperatures between 18-25°C. Protect from frost; and make sure it doesn't drop below 10°C for any length of time.

Pet-safe
Yes, this plant is generally considered non-toxic to pets and humans, making it a safe choice for households with animals and children.

Sprouts Top Tips
Rotate the plant periodically to ensure even growth and prevent it from leaning toward the light source. Keep the leaves free from dust by gently wiping them with a soft, damp cloth. Over time, ‘Enon’ may produce offsets (pups) that can be separated and replanted to propagate new plants.

Extras
The ‘Enon’ variety of Haworthia attenuata is distinguished by its extra chubby and stubby, green triangular leaves with raised white spots. The plant’s coloration can vary, becoming lighter green when exposed to more sunlight. In summer, it may produce small white flowers, adding to its ornamental appeal.
