Drought tolerant and highly resilient, it thrives in poor soils and brings vibrant colour to garden spaces with minimal maintenance.

Armeria pseudarmeria ‘Ballerina Lilac’, commonly known as Sea Thrift, is celebrated for its long-lasting blooms and ability to withstand tough growing conditions. This British-grown variety is ideal for pollinator-friendly gardens, attracting bees and butterflies throughout its extended flowering season.

Scientific Name
Armeria pseudarmeria ‘Ballerina Lilac’ (false sea thrift, cultivar: Ballerina Lilac)

Common Name
Sea Thrift

Origin
Native to coastal regions of Europe and the Mediterranean

Pruning Tips
Deadhead spent flowers regularly to encourage continuous blooming. Cut back flower stems after flowering to promote fresh growth and maintain a tidy shape.

Wildlife Value
A rich nectar source for bees and butterflies, particularly beneficial in coastal and dry garden settings.

Positioning
Prefers full sun. Ideal for rock gardens, coastal planting, borders, and containers. Also suitable for green roofs and gravel gardens.

Water

Soil
Thrives in well-draining, sandy, or gravelly soil with a neutral to slightly acidic pH. Performs best in poorer soils and does not require high fertility.

Food
Minimal feeding required. A light application of a balanced fertiliser in early spring can support healthy flowering. Avoid rich feeds, as excessive nutrients can lead to weak growth.

Sprouts Top Tips
For the best effect, plant in clusters to create a striking display of colour. Ideal for edging pathways, where its compact mounds of foliage provide year-round interest.
