Pruning Tips
Deadhead faded flowers regularly to encourage continuous blooming. Lightly trim back overly long stems after flowering to maintain a compact, tidy shape and encourage fresh growth.
Wildlife Value
The open flowers provide nectar for bees and other pollinating insects, particularly when grown outdoors in sunny positions.
Positioning
Thrives in full sun or partial shade. Ideal for containers, hanging baskets, window boxes, raised planters, and the front of borders. In colder parts of the UK, some winter protection may be beneficial.
Water
Keep compost evenly moist during the growing season, allowing the surface to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid prolonged waterlogging, which can lead to root problems.
Soil
Prefers fertile, well-drained soil or a good quality peat-free container compost. Good drainage is essential, especially during winter.
Food
Feed every two weeks with a balanced liquid fertiliser during the flowering season to encourage continuous blooming and healthy growth.
Pet-safe
Generally regarded as non-toxic to cats, dogs, and horses.
Sprouts Top Tips
Position containers where the trailing stems can spill naturally over the edges. This creates the most impressive display and showcases the masses of white flowers to their full effect.
