This vibrant variety features bright pink petals softened with lighter blush tones, creating a joyful and romantic display. Flowering generously in late winter and spring, it brightens sunny windowsills now and can move outdoors once frosts have passed.
Scientific Name
Pelargonium × domesticum (stork-like, referring to the beak-shaped seed head)
Common Name
Regal Pelargonium, Martha Washington Geranium
Origin
Hybrid group developed in Europe during the 19th century from South African Pelargonium species.
Light
Requires bright light to flower well. A sunny south- or west-facing windowsill is ideal. Insufficient light can cause buds to drop and reduce flowering.
Water
Allow the top 2–3cm of compost to dry slightly between waterings. Water thoroughly but never leave sitting in excess water. Reduce watering during darker winter months.
Humidity
Average household humidity is fine. Avoid placing near radiators or cold draughts.
Soil
Use a free-draining peat-free houseplant or loam-based compost. Ensure pots have drainage holes to prevent root rot.
Food
Feed every 2–3 waters during active growth and flowering with a balanced liquid fertiliser. Pause feeding once flowering slows significantly.
Temperature
Prefers 10–21°C. Protect from frost. Can be moved outdoors once night temperatures remain consistently above 10°C (usually mid–late May in the UK).
Pet-safe
Not considered pet safe. May cause mild stomach upset if ingested.
Sprouts Top Tips
Bright light is the secret to repeat flowering – if buds fall before opening, move your plant somewhere sunnier rather than watering more.
