This classic upright pelargonium produces clusters of crisp pure white flowers held above rich green foliage, bringing elegant colour and structure to patio pots, containers, and sunny garden displays throughout summer. Pelargonium zonale ‘Classic Pure White’ flowers continuously from late spring until the first frosts, creating a bright, timeless display that works beautifully in both traditional and contemporary planting schemes. Its compact, bushy growth makes it ideal for containers, window boxes, and sheltered borders.

Pelargonium zonale ‘Classic Pure White’, commonly known as Zonal Geranium, is loved for its reliable flowering, drought tolerance, and long-lasting blooms. The clean white flower heads contrast beautifully against rounded green foliage, which often carries the darker zonal markings typical of this group. Particularly well suited to sunny patios and balconies, it performs brilliantly during warm summers and requires very little maintenance once established.

Tender Perennial
Bushy, Upright, Long Flowering

Flowers: Late Spring to First Frosts
Foliage: Spring to Autumn

Scientific Name
Pelargonium zonale ‘Classic Pure White’ (stork’s bill with banded foliage)

Synonyms
Often referred to as Geranium, although true Geraniums are a different plant group

Common Name
Zonal Geranium, Bedding Geranium

Origin
Cultivated hybrid originating from southern African Pelargonium species

Pruning Tips
Remove faded flower heads regularly to encourage more blooms and pinch out leggy stems to maintain a bushier shape throughout summer.

Wildlife Value
The flowers may attract bees and other pollinating insects, particularly in warmer weather.

Positioning
Best grown in full sun in patio pots, window boxes, hanging baskets, and sheltered garden borders. Prefers a warm, protected position.

Water
Allow the top layer of compost to dry slightly between waterings. Water regularly during hot weather but avoid overly wet compost, particularly during cooler periods.

Soil
Thrives in fertile, free-draining compost. A quality peat-free container compost with added drainage works well.

Food
Feed every 1–2 weeks with a high-potash liquid fertiliser during the flowering season to encourage continuous blooms.

Pet-safe
Toxic to pets if ingested and may also cause skin irritation in some animals and people.

Sprouts Top Tips
White pelargoniums are brilliant for brightening darker corners of patios and look especially elegant paired with silver foliage or soft pastel summer flowers.
