Origin
Homalomena rubescens is native to tropical regions of South and Southeast Asia, where it grows in warm, humid forest environments.
Light
Prefers bright, indirect light. Good light will help maintain the variegation, but avoid strong direct sunlight, which can scorch the paler areas of the leaves.
Water
Keep the soil lightly and consistently moist, allowing the top few centimetres to dry between waterings. Avoid allowing the plant to sit in water, as this can lead to root rot. Water less frequently during the cooler months when growth slows.
Humidity
Prefers moderate to high humidity. Aim for around 50–70% where possible and keep away from radiators, cold draughts and other sources of dry air.
Soil
Use a rich, loose and well-draining soil mix. A good-quality houseplant compost with added perlite and orchid bark works well.
Food
