🌿 Our 7-day Plant Promise

Buying plants online can feel risky – that’s why every order comes with our 7-day Plant Promise.

If anything goes wrong in transit, just get in touch and we’ll help put it right.

Find out more here

Every plant is carefully packed by our small, plant-loving Bristol team using protective, mostly plastic-free packaging.

Occasionally, you may find reused bubble wrap – this has been donated to us, and we encourage you to reuse it too.

Orders are usually packed and dispatched within 2–4 working days. We may occasionally delay dispatch during periods of extreme weather to protect your plants. We always prioritise plant health over speed of delivery.

Delivery is £4.99 for any number of items, or free on orders over £60. We deliver across the UK only.

We also offer local, bike-powered delivery in Bristol for £4.99 via Pedal Collective, a gentler option for plants and the planet.

We believe in paying people fairly, that’s why we’ve been a Real Living Wage Employer from the very beginning. We’re an independent Bristol business, packing every order ourselves.

Supporting us means supporting fair work.

Questions before ordering? Just drop us a message – we’re always happy to help.

A delicate, compact fern with fine-textured foliage, Doryopteris pilosa ‘Gemmifera’ is especially loved for its ability to produce tiny plantlets along its fronds. These drop off and root easily, creating a soft, spreading clump over time. Its refined appearance makes it ideal for terrariums, bathrooms, or sheltered indoor spots with higher humidity.

Scientific Name
Doryopteris pilosa ‘Gemmifera’ (hairy-leaved, gemma-bearing fern)

Reclassification / Naming History
A member of the Doryopteris genus within the Pteridaceae family. Often confused with other “hand” or “button” ferns due to shared common names, but botanically distinct.

Synonyms
Sometimes listed simply as Doryopteris gemmifera

Common Name
Button Fern, Antenna Fern

Origin
Native to tropical and subtropical regions of Central and South America.

Light
Prefers bright, indirect light or light shade. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the delicate fronds.

Water
Keep the compost consistently lightly moist. Allow only the very top surface to dry slightly between waterings. Never allow the soil to dry out completely.

Humidity
Requires higher humidity to thrive. Ideal for terrariums, bathrooms, or placement near a pebble tray.

Soil
Use a fine, well-draining but moisture-retentive mix, such as houseplant compost blended with perlite and a small amount of bark. Repot every 2–3 years.

Food
Feed every 4 waters during the growing season with a diluted houseplant fertiliser. Pause feeding in winter.

Temperature
Prefers temperatures between 18–24°C. Avoid cold draughts and temperatures below 12°C.

Pet-safe
Non-toxic. Safe for pets and children.

Sprouts Top Tips
If tiny plantlets appear on the fronds, gently place them onto damp compost – they’ll root easily and help fill out the plant.

Extras
Best grown in consistently humid conditions; struggles in dry, centrally heated rooms.

Did You Know?
The name ‘Gemmifera’ refers to its unusual ability to reproduce via plantlets rather than spores alone.
