🌿 Our 7-day Plant Promise

Buying plants online can feel risky – that’s why every order comes with our 7-day Plant Promise.

If anything goes wrong in transit, just get in touch and we’ll help put it right.

Find out more here

Every plant is carefully packed by our small, plant-loving Bristol team using protective, mostly plastic-free packaging.

Occasionally, you may find reused bubble wrap – this has been donated to us, and we encourage you to reuse it too.

Orders are usually packed and dispatched within 2–4 working days. We may occasionally delay dispatch during periods of extreme weather to protect your plants. We always prioritise plant health over speed of delivery.

Delivery is £4.99 for any number of items, or free on orders over £60. We deliver across the UK only.

We also offer local, bike-powered delivery in Bristol for £4.99 via Pedal Collective, a gentler option for plants and the planet.

We believe in paying people fairly, that’s why we’ve been a Real Living Wage Employer from the very beginning. We’re an independent Bristol business, packing every order ourselves.

Supporting us means supporting fair work.

Questions before ordering? Just drop us a message – we’re always happy to help.

This hybrid primrose's gilded flowers sit atop a bed of mid-green, textured foliage, in deep purple shot with gold. Hardy throughout the UK down to -20°C.

Bring a touch of regal colour to your garden with these gorgeous primroses. Delicate, trumpet-like flowers bloom on longer stems above the characteristic soft-textured primrose leaves. Flowering in late winter to early spring, they are an excellent choice for early-season colour, and are a good source of pollen so early in the season for your local bees. Choose them for their gorgeous, early-season colour and keep them for the lush, year-round greenery.

Evergreen Perennial

Flower: clump forming

Flowers in early spring, foliage year-round

Scientific Name
Primula veris × vulgaris 'Gold Laced' (true primrose crossed with common primrose, cultivar: gold laced)

Common Name
Gold-Laced Primrose, Gold-Laced Polyanthus, Hybrid Primrose, Gold Primrose

Origin
Originating in Europe, this hybrid species is native to Britain, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland and the Balkans

Pruning Tips
Deadhead after flowering; otherwise these flowers are low-maintenance and need no more pruning.

Wildlife Value
While it's not known to be particularly valuable for British wildlife, this Primula will still be a good source of early-season pollen for whoever is awake at that time of year.

Positioning
Plant in partial shade; this plant can grow in both exposed and sheltered areas.

Water
Make sure soil stays moist, especially whilst in bloom. Water in unseasonably dry weather.

Soil
Clay and loam soils, with low to neutral pH, are best for keeping primulas like this one happy.

Food
Use moderately fertile soil; adding an annual layer of mulch will help keep your soil nourishing.

Pet-safe
No, this plant is toxic to cats, dogs and horses.

Sprouts Top Tips
Lots of spring bulbs like to get the most sun possible, so this plant is a good choice for shady gardens in spring - it needs some sun, but will be happy not getting all-day sun
