Juggling It All – Business, Burnout & Looking Ahead

Well, it’s halfway through March, and I’m only just getting around to writing this month’s letter. To be honest, I’ve been feeling pretty burnt out, and it’s only really hit me this week. Running a small business is hard - there are so many plates to spin, emails to reply to, and we’re always planning the next big thing that will push Sprouts to the next step. Lately, that’s meant writing five-year business plans, looking into getting a second premises for our online side of the business, working on the very exciting Malvern project with Ferne, and even starting to think about Christmas 2026 (I know, right!?). And that’s all on top of the usual day-to-day things that keep the business going.

I realised that I’ll have been running Sprouts for five years come September, and frankly, that time frame seems bizarre. This is the longest thing I’ve ever done in my life, and in many ways, I feel like we’re just getting started. And yet, at the same time, I feel exhausted. Over the last five years, I’ve worked most days, including weekends and evenings. I’ve had a handful of long weekends away and only a few full weeks off during that time - and even then, I've found it difficult to entirely switch off. It’s probably not surprising that I’m feeling a bit burnt out after all these years of constant movement.

A Breath of Fresh Air

Though winter still has its grip, the lighter evenings and the first signs of new growth remind us that spring isn’t too far away. It’s been wonderful to see so many of you in the shop, picking out houseplants to brighten up your spaces and chatting about what’s next for your gardens. February can feel a little slow and grey, but having a home filled with greenery always lifts the spirits.

Wedding Season is Blooming

We’ve had a flurry of wedding enquiries lately, and it’s been so exciting to help couples plan their greenery for the big day. Whether it’s hiring lush foliage to frame an aisle or curating plant-filled table settings, we love seeing how plants can transform a venue. If you're planning a wedding this year and thinking about adding a touch of nature, now is the time to get in touch - we’re already booking up for peak season!

A Look Ahead

Now that we’re well into March, I’m hoping to shake off the winter slump and get back into the excitement of the months ahead. The shop is filling up with fresh plants, the days are finally getting longer, and there’s plenty to look forward to. Whether you’re planning a spring refresh for your home, starting to think about your garden, or just stopping by for a browse, we’d love to see you.

And with Mother’s Day coming up on 30th March, now is the perfect time to start thinking about something special. Whether it’s a beautiful houseplant, a handmade ceramic, or a thoughtful gift, we’ll have plenty of lovely options in-store and online to help you celebrate the mums and mother figures in your life.

Thanks as always for your support - it really does mean the world.

See you soon,
Jessy
