Hello there, nice to meet you, we are Sprouts!
Sprouts of Bristol is an independent plant shop based in Kingsdown, Bristol. Sprouts of Bristol currently consists of Jessy and Tom (head Sprouts), AJ (deliveries), Zelda (dog - shop blep queen), and Indie (cat - home security).
The idea of Sprouts started formulating in August 2020 with some ciders in the garden. With the desire to get out of our office (or at the time, dining room table/sofa jobs with the home working), we started thinking about business ideas. Having always had an interest in plants and having many around the house, the various lockdowns of 2020 saw Jessy’s house plant collection flourish, and so the idea for Sprouts seemed like a no brainer - although saying that it was initially going to be a plant shop/gig venue/record shop/coffee shop/brunch stop/deli, so we did have to narrow our ambitions slightly!
Originally we operated out of our spare bedroom, with orders coming in through the website and us hand-delivering ourselves at the weekends, whilst still both working full time. AJ was bought on board to help with deliveries, and on the 1st of October 2021 we opened Sprouts HQ in Kingsdown.
Now operating completely from our new shop (there is considerably less soil in our house which is great), we have extended our range to include plants, pots, soil, seeds, homewares and gifts.
We love being an independent business and supporting other indies, with over 50 (and growing) other small businesses that we stock or have worked with. Where possible we try to work with local, UK, and sustainable businesses. It’s fantastic to be part of Bristol’s flourishing indie community!
Our back room also doubles up as a workshop space, hosting a range of crafty workshops to bring people together as part of the community. All workshops can be seen on the workshop page, and if you’re interested in hosting a workshop with us, please get in touch by emailing hello@sproutsofbristol.co.uk
We’ve worked hard to make the shop a wonderful experience and place to be, and we hope to see you soon. Remember if you’re in Bristol or central Bath, we can always hand deliver and AJ can bring our range of products to you. We've also recently started offering national delivery on all of our products (except massive plants!) so get Sprouting wherever you are in the UK.
All the love
Jessy & Tom
Meet the Team!
Jessy -Head Sprout/Egg
Jessy comes from a creative background, with a 10 year graphic design career behind her. She has been surrounded by plants her entire life, from her grandparents luscious back gardens to digging up spuds with her Nana and even the many house plants in her childhood home whilst growing up in 90s in Liverpool. When not in the shop, she can often be found sampling Bristols wide range of exciting restaurants, working in her potager garden with her trusty spud digger Zelda or planning the next exciting adventure!
Tom - Head Sprout/Ham
Tom is the second head Sprout, brought into the plant world by Jessy. When not in the shop he can be found playing bass in his band Imprints at various festivals and events, filling his Pokedex and getting a few laps of Mario Kart in, or finding somewhere for good food and a pint.
Indie - Home cat/King of passive-aggressive snuggles
Jessy and Tom have had Indie since he was a kitten in their uni days at Falmouth University. Bought for Jessy after she went travelling so she wouldn’t leave by our good friends which is probably not the most advisable reason to get a kitten, Indie (full name Indie-Tink Cosmo Skywalker) has been with us on our throughout our Bristol adventure. Known for being a bit on the grumpy side, his old age has seen him getting a bit softer and inviting strokes - for a limited time at least.
Zelda - Shop dog/Queen of Bleps
Zelda is the newest addition to the Sprouts Team. An ex-street dog from Macedonia, she travelled to the UK in November 2021 and has really come out of her shell since joining us. She is more often than not in the shop with us, and can often be found curled up behind the counter or on her rug out the back. She may say hello but can still be a little bit shy!
