Evergreen Perennial
Foliage shrub with tall flower stems
Foliage year-round, flowers in spring

Scientific Name
Heuchera (Heucher's plant)

Common Name
Coral Bells, Alum Root, Midnight Rose Heuchera, Purple variegated Heuchera

Origin
This plant originates in woodland areas of the US

Pruning Tips
Tidy up old foliage in early spring, and remove flower spikes when they have faded.

Wildlife Value
This plant isn't known to be beneficial to any particular wildlife in the UK

Positioning
Full sun to partial shade, this plant will love to face north, east or west, and can grow in sheltered or exposed places.

Water
Heuchera are drought tolerant, so only water in excessively dry weather.

Soil
Ensure soil is moist and well-draining. Sand, loam and clay will all work for this shrub.

Food
Fertile soil will be great for your Heuchera. Mulching annually will add in the nutrients needed as well as helping the root stock stay in the soil, as it has a tendency to lift out of the ground.

Pet-safe
Yes- no toxicity reported, though it's best for the plant and your pets if they don't nibble too much!

Sprouts Top Tips
The real star on this plant is its foliage, so you want to keep it looking its best all year long! Ensure it is planted somewhere well-draining and that will help keep the leaves fresh and not waterlogged. Pruning back spent flower stems will also keep it looking tidy.

Letter from the founder - September 2024
This month we have been busier than expected, which is obviously amazing. We have worked with some amazing businesses, including a very nice doughnut cafe thats opened on College Green that you need to check out. We have welcomed Jazz to the team, she's already settling in amazingly. And we look forward to the end of the year for that ever so special quarter that is very very important to retailers like us up and down the country.

Letter from the founder - August 2024 - Sprouts of Bristol
We have launched our first (hopefully monthly) ‘Letter from the Founder’ blog post. I talk about a string of bad luck, from water gushing from various ceilings in my life to a break-in, and also reflect on the incredible work we have done to win two awards earlier this year. I look ahead to what’s coming up in August, projects we are working on with our clients, and some thoughts about the rest of the year. And I give an insight into my brain, why I am who I am and why I’m so thankful for all the opportunities, passion and excitement that running Sprouts has given me as a founder and as a woman.
