Every plant is carefully packed by our small, plant-loving Bristol team using protective, mostly plastic-free packaging.
Occasionally, you may find reused bubble wrap – this has been donated to us, and we encourage you to reuse it too.
Orders are usually packed and dispatched within 2–4 working days. We may occasionally delay dispatch during periods of extreme weather to protect your plants. We always prioritise plant health over speed of delivery.
Delivery is £4.99 for any number of items, or free on orders over £60. We deliver across the UK only.
We also offer local, bike-powered delivery in Bristol for £4.99 via Pedal Collective, a gentler option for plants and the planet.
We believe in paying people fairly, that’s why we’ve been a Real Living Wage Employer from the very beginning. We’re an independent Bristol business, packing every order ourselves.

Build a healthy foundation for your terrarium with our Terrarium Substrate Bundle.
This bundle contains the same layered substrates we use in our own in-house terrariums, carefully measured and packaged by the Sprouts team so you can easily create the correct environment for your plants.
Perfect if you already have a glass vessel and need the essential drainage and soil layers to get started.
All substrates are premium quality and supplied by Soil Ninja, then portioned by us into convenient terrarium-sized bundles.
Pair this bundle with our Terrarium Decoration Bundle, plants, and glass vessels to complete your terrarium build.
What’s Included
Each bundle contains the essential terrarium layers:
• Drainage Layer – Semi Hydro Mix
• Separation Layer – Sand
• Purifying Layer – Activated Charcoal
• Soil Layer – Terrarium Soil
These layers work together to improve drainage, reduce odours and create a healthy environment for terrarium plants.
How to Choose the Right Size
To work out which bundle you need, simply measure the amount of substrate your terrarium will require.
-
Pour water into your empty glass vessel up to the height you want the substrate layer to reach.
-
Pour this water into a pint glass to measure the volume.
-
Use the guide below to choose the closest bundle size.
Tip: If you’re between sizes, we recommend choosing the larger bundle so you have extra substrate rather than not enough.
(1 pint = 473ml)

Add a Pot & Care Essentials
Most customers add a pot or soil when purchasing this plant.Really pleased with our purchase. Well packaged and labelled, helpful information regarding terranium size. Daughter is really pleased, terranium looks great
Delivered on time and good quality!
Delightfully presented, packaged and now used!
This is such a brilliant idea! Try is substrate kit comes with everything you need to create your own little world. The handy pack size calculator really helped me. It was packaged really well and delivered quickly
I had ordered two extra large sets of the substrate bundle. Unfortunately some of the material was very damp and the paper bags in which it was packed had split. While it was easy to separate out the gravel and compost it wasn't really feasible with the sand. That said the materials are good and have been used (I bought them for someone else) and they are happy with the result.
Also, I did not experience this problem when I previously purchased a smaller size.
