Scientific Name
Phlox subulata (needle-shaped flame) 'Candy Stripe'
Flower: low, carpet-like growth Perennial
Common Name(s)
Creeping Phlox, Moss Phlox
Origin
Native to the U.S., particularly between and around New York and Michigan
Description
The Creeping Phlox gets its common name from its growing habit; it doesn't grow very far upwards, but spreads horizontally, creeping up to two feet wide along the ground. This variety's flowers sport pink and white stripes like boiled sweets or candy cane. The phlox is popular in flower beds and rocky gardens alike, and will grow into a cushion of bright flowers, spreading over a few years to its full extent. The masses of tiny flowers will bloom for a short time and leave bright evergreen foliage behind to keep your garden lush even when the flowers have faded.
Months of Interest
May-June
Pruning Tips
Trim back in August- September after all flowers have faded
Wildlife Value
Bees; supplies nectar for butterflies and nectar-drinking moths.
Positioning
Full Sun to Partial Shade
Water
Keep moist while the plant establishes; make sure the top of the root ball is not lower than the soil as this will leave it waterlogged. Make sure it drains well, especially in winter, and water thoroughly in more prolonged dry weather.
Soil
Light, well-drained soil; will benefit from the addition of sand.
Food
Creeping Phlox does well in nutrient-rich soil so fertilise before planting and top up if needed. Make sure you choose a fertiliser suited to flowering plants!
Pet-safe?
Yes, though it's probably best for both pet and plant that they don't eat too much!

Had a desire box was ok but one plant not potted.. others very small.. rescue box from else’s where bigger plants and stronger looking
Had to grab this one as the pastel green was so pretty. There is a water resivour at the bottom to stop plants sitting in water so its perfect for orchids but at the moment I'm using it for another plant.
Wanted one of these for ages so I had to jump at the size and price of this plant. Stunning large leaves and has already grown loads
Lovely little plant beautifully packaged. Arrived in perfect condition at a great price. Thank you so much :)
