Scientific Name Philodendron squamiferum x pedatum (tree-hugger: scale-bearing species crossed with pedate-leaved species) 'Florida Green'
Common Name Florida Green Philodendron
Origin Native to tropical parts of South America
Description This climbing Philodendron is characterised by its glossy, pedated (shaped like birds' feet) leaves and as a houseplant, like most philodendrons, it is fairly easygoing. In its natural habitat it's used to growing up tree trunks or along the forest floor, so likes indirect light best and won't mind a spot of shade. These shiny leaves with their fascinating shapes are really eyecatching; this variety is on the rare side so will be an impressive addition to your collection too! Light Place in moderate to bright indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight as this can scorch the leaves. Water Allow the top two inches of soil to dry out in between waterings (these plants are easy-going so if you wait a little longer to water don't panic!). Ensure good drainage and don't allow to sit in water.
Humidity Appreciates above average humidity, but will do just fine in most standard household humidity. Will appreciate an occasional misting, especially if in a dryer spot. Water less in darker areas.
Soil Use a chunky, well draining mix; one designed for Monsteras or Philodendrons will be ideal. Repot every two years in spring as the plant grows.
Food Will benefit from a light feed throughout spring and summer, about every four waters. Temperature Average household temperatures of about 18-28° are fine- try not to place somewhere where temperatures dip below 12°C for extended periods.
Pet-safe No, this plant is toxic to pets and small humans.
Sprouts Top Tips Water with tepid rather than cold water to avoid shocking the plant. Rotate it now and then to promote even growth. Avoid draughty spots.
The Florida green was in excellent condition. I watered the plant and found a great spot for it. The Rosy Calathea had leaves that were a tiny bit dry but that's to be expected as I know how fussy they are especially if boxed up. Happy with purchases. Would buy from seller again.

Good quality plant, glad I snapped one up....
Good quality plant, glad I snapped one up. The plant arrived in good condition with multiple established leaves. Already has two new leaves coming through. A great addition to my collection.

We have launched our first (hopefully monthly) ‘Letter from the Founder’ blog post. I talk about a string of bad luck, from water gushing from various ceilings in my life to a break-in, and also reflect on the incredible work we have done to win two awards earlier this year. I look ahead to what’s coming up in August, projects we are working on with our clients, and some thoughts about the rest of the year. And I give an insight into my brain, why I am who I am and why I’m so thankful for all the opportunities, passion and excitement that running Sprouts has given me as a founder and as a woman.
