Anthurium ‘Silver Blush Mint’ is a beautiful tropical houseplant prized for its rounded, heart-shaped leaves and striking silvery-green foliage. A variation of the popular Silver Blush Anthurium, this plant features a soft, minty-green appearance with delicate silver markings that become more pronounced as the leaves mature. Its compact growth habit and shimmering foliage make it a wonderful addition to any collection of unusual houseplants.
Scientific Name
Anthurium crystallinum ‘Silver Blush Mint’ (horticultural trade name)
Common Name(s)
Silver Blush Mint Anthurium, Mint Silver Blush, Silver Blush Anthurium
Origin
A cultivated selection associated with Anthurium crystallinum, a species native to tropical Central and South America. This particular form is grown for its distinctive minty-green and silver foliage.
Light
Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid strong direct sunlight, which can scorch the delicate foliage. A position near an east-facing window or slightly back from a bright south or west-facing window is ideal.
Water
Water when the top few centimetres of soil have dried, then water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain away. Keep the growing medium lightly moist but never waterlogged. Reduce watering slightly during autumn and winter when growth slows.
Humidity
Prefers high humidity, ideally around 60–80%. Higher humidity encourages healthy leaf development and helps prevent crispy edges. A humidifier can be particularly beneficial, especially during winter when indoor heating dries the air.
Soil
Use a chunky, airy and well-draining aroid mix. A combination of orchid bark, perlite, coco coir and a little peat-free houseplant compost works well. Good drainage and airflow around the roots are essential.
Food
Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser diluted to half strength. Reduce feeding during autumn and winter.
Temperature
Prefers warm temperatures between 18–27°C. Protect from cold draughts, sudden temperature changes and prolonged temperatures below 15°C.
Pet-safe
No. Like other Anthuriums, this plant contains calcium oxalate crystals that can cause irritation if ingested. Keep out of reach of pets and children.
Sprouts Top Tips
Provide consistent warmth, good humidity and plenty of bright, indirect light to maintain the beautiful minty-silver colouring. Avoid allowing the growing medium to dry out completely, particularly when new leaves are developing. New foliage is delicate, so resist the temptation to touch or help unfurl emerging leaves.
Extras
The distinctive silvery colouring can vary between individual plants and leaves, with some displaying more mint-green tones and others developing stronger silver markings. As the plant matures, its leaves can become larger and more defined.
Like other Anthuriums, it may occasionally produce a flower consisting of a spadix surrounded by a spathe, although it is primarily grown for its ornamental foliage.
Did You Know?
The Silver Blush Anthurium is closely associated with Anthurium crystallinum, a species famous for its velvety leaves and contrasting silver veins. ‘Silver Blush Mint’ is a horticultural trade name used for plants with particularly pale, minty-silver foliage rather than a formally established botanical variety.
