This variation on the famous 'Pink Princess' cultivar sees the pink come through bolder and brighter than ever. The bold pink stems end in deep green leaves scattered with splotches of pale pink and deep magenta variegation. This high-contrast marbled pattern is what makes this cultivar in particular stand out. On the newer leaves, you can see the tint of bold pink across the leaves, highlighting each variegated spot with beautiful colour. This compact cultivar will climb as it grows, and can be trained up a moss pole or left to trail. Looking fabulous in any collection, on a sideboard or in any planting display. Easygoing with its care, this plant adapts well to average household conditions and is happy in bright but indirect light. Keep it happy and its pretty princess-y patterning will keep you smiling too.
Scientific Name
Philodendron erubescens 'Pink Princess Marble' (blushing tree-hugger, cultivar: pink princess marble)
This species name was first identified and published in 1854.
Common Name
Marble Pink Princess, Pink Princess Philodendron, Blushing Philodendron, PPP
Origin
Native to wet tropical forests in Colombia, South America
Light
Your Pink Princess will appreciate bright but indirect light. It can stand a little shade, but if the light is too low you may lose that stunning variegation. Make sure it's bright enough that you can read by the natural light easily in daytime.
Water
Let the top two inches of soil dry between waters. Philodendrons are easygoing so don't worry too much if you wait a little longer to water. Make sure it drains well and isn't sat in a puddle.
Humidity
Your Philodendron will appreciate above-average humidity, but will do fine in most standard household humidity environments. Make sure it's not too near a radiator, and if you notice the leaves getting crispy brown edges with yellow haloes, the plant will benefit from using a pebble tray or moving to a slightly damper location.
Soil
Use a chunky, well draining mix. One designed for Philodendrons or Monstera, or with added coir, perlite and bark, will work well. Repot every two years in spring as the plant grows.
Food
Feed every four waters in the spring-summer growing season, and reduce over autumn and winter when the plant won't be growing.
Temperature
Average household temperatures of about 18-28° are fine- try not to place somewhere where temperatures dip below 12°C for extended periods.
Pet-safe
No, this plant is toxic to pets and small humans.
Sprouts Top Tips
Dust can build up on the big leaves, so dust with a soft cloth occasionally. Rotate the plant now and then to promote even growth. Avoid draughty spots.
