How British Grown Flowering Plants Helped Create a Garden-Inspired Wedding

When Hannah & Tom approached us for their wedding plant hire, they had a clear vision—an intimate and natural celebration filled with wildflowers, herbs, and beautiful bursts of colour. What made this wedding even more special was that around 80% of the plants were British grown flowering plants, sourced just outside of Bristol. This added a personal and local touch to their big day, perfectly complementing the garden-inspired setting at The Mount Without. We were thrilled to help bring their vision to life with plants that celebrated both the natural beauty of the region and their unique style.

🌿 Wedding Plant Hire in Bristol & Beyond

Set at the breathtaking The Mount Without—just down the road from our shop—this venue provided a stunning canvas for their floral vision. The beauty of the plants, from vibrant roses to delicate hydrangeas, brought their rustic cottage garden dream to life. The rich greenery, paired with fragrant blooms, immediately invited guests into an enchanting atmosphere.

The Brief: Hannah & Tom’s Wedding Vision

🌿 Wedding Theme: Natural garden with earthy, wildflower touches

📍 Venue: The Mount Without, Bristol

📅 Date: 23rd July 2022

🎨 Colour Palette: Burnt orange, sunset yellow, soft greens, and natural tones

Hannah & Tom wanted the plants to reflect a natural garden aesthetic, with an emphasis on wildflowers and foliage, rather than traditional floral arrangements. They particularly liked the idea of adding ferny foliage and herbs to create a relaxed and fragrant atmosphere. After discussing their preferences, we created a plan that blended wild, natural foliage with plants in burnt oranges and sunset yellows, alongside greens and whites to keep the colour scheme soft but full of life.

Choosing the Right Plants for the Theme

We carefully selected plants that fit their vision for a wild, natural look, while incorporating their requested colours and textures. Here’s what we chose:

🌿 Feature Plants:

Hydrangeas – We placed extra-large white hydrangeas on either side of the chuppah, framing the ceremony space beautifully. These elegant blooms continued to shine as they were moved to the tables after the ceremony.

Fountain Grass – To add texture and movement, we used extra-large fountain grasses to complement the soft, romantic feel of the hydrangeas. These grasses were positioned strategically at either side of the chuppah and added a sense of height to the displays.

🌿 Table Plants:

Orange Yarrow, White Agapanthus, and White Lavender – These plants were placed on the tables where the tables joined during the ceremony and moved to the centre for the wedding breakfast. Their soft colours created a sense of warmth and intimacy.

Orange Avens, Yellow Tickseed, and White Pincushion – These medium-sized plants were used in the centre of each table. The colours popped without overwhelming the space, providing subtle hints of burnt orange and sunset yellow.

🌿 Herbs:

Thyme, Rosemary, and Basil – Small herb plants were placed throughout the tables, creating aromatic clusters that added a fragrant dimension to the celebration. The soft, fragrant herbs also added an earthy, rustic charm, fitting perfectly with the garden-inspired theme.

The Setup & How It All Came Together

The ceremony space was transformed with a semi-circle of chairs, with a carefully arranged layout of plants framing the chuppah. The plants were placed randomly during the ceremony to reflect the wild, natural look, and once the vows were exchanged, the plants were moved to the reception tables. The hydrangeas and fountain grasses took centre stage at the end of the tables, while the smaller plants created an inviting, fragrant atmosphere in the centre of the tables.

During the reception, the space looked magical as the plants brought warmth and life to every corner. Thyme and rosemary created a welcoming scent, and the vibrant pops of orange and yellow tied into the soft greens and whites of the plants. Every plant was carefully chosen and placed to enhance the natural beauty of The Mount Without, making the day feel like an elegant, rustic garden party.

'Awesome wedding plants from an awesome supplier Sprouts supplied the plants for our wedding and we couldn't be happier with how it all went. To be honest, we didn't really know what we wanted, but the guys gave us loads of ideas to help us get our minds whirring. From colours, to types, to heights - they came up with a look and feel that worked perfectly with the venue, our vision for the day and our budget. We had loads of compliments and the photos look great. So much nicer having plants that will live on as opposed to flowers. If you are looking for wedding plants I'd definitely recommend getting in touch.'
