With its velvety purple daisy-like flowers and dark central disc, Osteospermum ‘Erato Double White Blush’ brings rich colour and reliable blooms from late spring through to autumn. Part of the Erato series, this compact and well-branched cultivar is bred for prolific flowering and uniform shape, making it ideal for containers, sunny borders, and seasonal displays. The flowers close at night and on cloudy days, then reopen to greet the sun.

Osteospermum ‘Erato Double White Blush’, commonly known as African Daisy, adds dramatic depth to plantings with its saturated purple tones and contrasting eye. Though tender, it’s often grown as a summer bedding plant in UK gardens.

Tender Perennial (grown as annual)

Compact, Free-flowering, Drought Tolerant

Flowers: May – October

Foliage: May – First Frost

Scientific Name
Osteospermum ‘Erato Double White Blush’ (Osteospermum = Greek for “bone seed”)

Synonyms
African Daisy, Cape Daisy

Common Name
Osteospermum, African Daisy

Origin
Hybrid cultivar – original species native to South Africa

Pruning Tips
Deadhead regularly to encourage continuous flowering. Pinching out growing tips early in the season helps develop a bushier habit.

Wildlife Value
Nectar-rich flowers are visited by bees and other daytime pollinators while open.

Positioning
Needs a full sun position to thrive and flower well. Ideal for pots, window boxes, and bedding in sheltered, sunny gardens.

Water
Water moderately – let the top layer of compost dry out between waterings. Avoid soggy conditions.

Soil
Free-draining soil is essential. Suitable for sandy or loam-based compost in containers or raised beds.

Food
Feed every 2–3 weeks during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertiliser to keep flowers coming.

Pet-safe
Generally considered non-toxic to pets and people.

Sprouts Top Tips
If overwintering, take cuttings or move to a frost-free greenhouse before the first frost. A sunny spot and regular deadheading will keep it flowering for months.
