This charming, evergreen alpine forms low, cushion-like mounds of fresh green foliage, topped with masses of bright pink flowers in early to late spring. Saxifraga × arendsii ‘Pixi Pan’ is a compact, vigorous variety that thrives in rockeries, walls, containers, and border edges, adding delicate colour and texture to garden spaces. Its long-lasting blooms attract early pollinators, making it a valuable plant for wildlife-friendly gardens.

Saxifraga × arendsii ‘Pixi Pan’, commonly known as Rockfoil, is celebrated for its resilience and ability to flourish in cool, well-drained soils. This British-grown variety is an excellent choice for alpine and woodland-style planting, where it provides year-round interest.

Evergreen Perennial Alpine

Low-growing, Spring-Blooming

Flowers: March – May
Foliage: Evergreen

Scientific Name
Saxifraga × arendsiiPixi Pan’ (rock-breaking hybrid, cultivar: Pixi Pan)

Common Name
Rockfoil

Origin
Hybrid of Saxifraga species native to Europe and Asia

Pruning Tips
Remove spent flowers to prolong blooming and keep plants tidy. Trim back lightly after flowering to encourage fresh foliage growth.

Wildlife Value
An excellent early nectar source for bees and other pollinators.

Positioning
Prefers partial shade to full sun. Ideal for rock gardens, border edges, alpine troughs, and containers. Performs well in cool, sheltered positions.

Water
Keep soil consistently moist but well-drained, particularly in dry weather. Avoid waterlogging, as excess moisture can cause root rot.

Soil
Thrives in well-draining, moderately fertile soil with a neutral to slightly acidic pH. Benefits from gritty, sandy, or loamy conditions.

Food
A light feed with a balanced fertiliser in early spring supports healthy flowering. Avoid excessive feeding, as this can lead to weak growth.

Pet-safe
Non-toxic to pets and humans.

Sprouts Top Tips
For the best display, plant in groups along rock walls or in crevices where it can cascade naturally, enhancing its alpine charm.
