A delicate yet eye-catching succulent, Kalanchoe pumila is loved for its soft, powdery leaves in silvery-grey tones, often edged with a gentle pink blush. The foliage has a velvety, almost frosted appearance, giving it a light, airy feel. In the right conditions, it produces clusters of small purple-pink flowers that add an extra layer of charm to this already beautiful plant.

Scientific Name
Kalanchoe pumila (‘dwarf Kalanchoe’)

Common Name
Flower Dust Plant

Origin
Native to Madagascar, where it grows in dry, rocky environments.

Light
Prefers bright light and can tolerate direct sun. A sunny windowsill is ideal. Good light helps maintain its compact shape and soft colouring.

Water
Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water sparingly, especially in winter. Overwatering can quickly lead to root rot.

Humidity
Tolerates average household humidity and prefers drier air. Avoid overly humid environments.

Soil
Use a well-draining cactus or succulent mix with added grit or sand to improve drainage.

Food
Feed every 3–4 waters during the growing season with a balanced fertiliser. Reduce feeding in autumn and winter.

Temperature
Prefers temperatures between 15–25°C. Avoid temperatures below 10°C and protect from frost.

Pet-safe
Toxic if ingested, so keep out of reach of pets and children.

Sprouts Top Tips
Avoid touching the leaves too much – the powdery coating helps protect the plant and can rub off easily.

Extras
This plant stays relatively compact, making it ideal for windowsills or smaller spaces.

Did You Know?
The powdery coating on the leaves, known as farina, helps reflect sunlight and reduce water loss in its natural habitat.
