This bushy shrub's spears of lavender purple flowers stun in summer. Hardy in most of the UK, down to -10°C.

This cute and compact bushy shrub will keep your garden a little bit green year-round with its evergreen foliage, and add a shot of bright violet-purple in the summer and early autumn. Its mid-green leaves are elliptic in shape, and it can grow up to 60cm tall and across. Fill a nice sheltered spot with colour with this Hebe!

Evergreen Perennial
Flower spires, shrubby foliage
Flowers late summer to early autumn, foliage year-round

Scientific Name
Veronica 'Naughties Blue' (Genus veronica, unknown species, cultivar: Noughties Blue)

Common Name
Hebe, Naughties Blue Hebe, Shrubby Veronica

Origin
The Hebe subset of Veronicas are native to New Zealand, French Polynesia and the Falklands.

Pruning Tips
Pruning isn't totally necessary, but to keep it tidy you can cut your Hebe back in spring.

Wildlife Value
Hebes are popular with pollinators, including bees.

Positioning
Full sun to partial shade, sheltered from the wind. May need protection in cold winters.

Water
This plant is drought resistant, so only water in dry weather.

Soil
Moist, well draining soil is best here. Soils based in chalk, loam and sand can all work well.

Food
Hebes do well in poor to moderately fertile soil, so no need to feed regularly. Adding fresh compost to the soil every year or two should be enough!

Pet-safe
No, Hebes are toxic to dogs, cats and horses

Sprouts Top Tips
Hebe are relatively low maintenance, but if you're somewhere that gets cold winters, your Hebe will appreciate protection over winter. Something like horticultural fleece, or being put under glass, will help your plant make it through colder nights.
