This moss is picked out by eye and the weight below is just used as a guide as the moss can fluctuate in weight due to the amount of moisture in the moss.
This is living moss and is not preserved. The tray roughly measures 28 x 38cm and usually has two layers of moss covering a rough surface area of around 0.2m2 (2000cm2) but this is worked out on average and depends on the thickness of the moss.
