The winning characteristic of this houseplant is the incredible texture of its leaves. The deep green of the leaves is marbled with paler green but this only serves to further highlight the rolling hills and deep ravines across the surface of each 'Marble Planet' leaf. This plant climbs up tree trunks in its natural habitat, and in your home it can be trained to climb or left to trail or hang to suit your aesthetic. Choose this distinctive plant for its gorgeous textured foliage and keep it for its Pothos-family easygoing nature and versatility.

Scientific Name
Epipremnum pinnatum 'Marble Planet' (winged/feathered plant which grows on the bottom of a tree, cultivar: marble planet)

Over the years, this plant has variously been known as part of the genuses: Monstera, Philodendron, Pothos, Rhaphidophora and Scindapsus. The current accepted name of E. pinnatum has been in use since 1908.

Common Name
Monstera Peru, Marble Planet Pothos, Devil's Ivy

Origin
Native to tropical forests ranging from Northern Australia through Malaysia to South China and Taiwan.

Light
While this plant can stand some weak sunlight, it really shines in a spot with enough natural light to read by but no direct sun. It is tolerant of shade, but in darker locations be extra careful not to water too much.

Water
Let the top third of the soil dry between waters, and remember it will need less frequent watering in winter.

Humidity
Average room humidity is perfect for this plant; misting its foliage can cause issues with powdery mildew, but it will benefit from a hose down every month or so to keep its leaves fresh and dust-free.

Soil
Use a mix designed for similar epiphytic plants like Monstera or Philodendrons; one containing elements like coir, bark, perlite and pumice will work well, combining moisture retention with airflow through the soil. Repot every few years in spring as the plant grows.

Food
Feed every four waters in spring and summer; reduce to every six in autumn and winter.

Temperature
Average temperatures of 18-30°C are fine; make sure it doesn't get colder than 12°C in winter.

Pet-safe
No, this plant is toxic to pets and small humans.

Sprouts Top Tips
Allow this plant somewhere to grow to or something to grow up and it will deliver! It can have a spread of up to 8m in height in the right conditions. Alternatively, you can trim the ends to make entire new plants from the cuttings; just make sure there's a leaf and a node and your plant should be able to root anew!
