Featuring baby blue checks against soft yellow, our AGIZA baskets are handwoven in three different sizes, so there’s one for almost every home storage challenge. Use a small woven basket for toiletries, jewellery and watches, remote controls, mobile devices and cables, while the medium and large woven baskets make great floor storage for everything from laundry and loo rolls to rugs and blankets, slippers, firewood and children’s toys. These baby blue checked baskets look great on shelves and also make excellent woven planters for all types of houseplants – and we can’t think of a more perfect new home gift…

The women behind these AGIZA striped woven baskets work within a small weaving group in rural Kenya. We spend time with these women as often as we can, and have built a wonderful bond with the craftswomen and their inspiring chairlady, Madam Dorcas over the years. Before we started working with this group, the weavers would travel to Nairobi to sell their woven baskets at city markets. Today, these women can earn a sustainable income from home, working to complete large and regular orders from The Basket Room during pockets of downtime between childcare, housework and farming.

Most of these weavers are from farming families who rely on steady rainfall to feed, support and clothe their families. We make sure that when farming slows down, weaving work picks up. Purchasing one of our woven baskets helps us in our pledge to empower rural artisans to support themselves and their families more sustainably, and preserve this rewarding craft for future generations of craftswomen.

Letter from the founder - September 2024 - Sprouts of Bristol
This month we have been busier than expected, which is obviously amazing. We have worked with some amazing businesses, including a very nice doughnut cafe thats opened on College Green that you need to check out. We have welcomed Jazz to the team, she's already settling in amazingly. And we look forward to the end of the year for that ever so special quarter that is very very important to retailers like us up and down the country.

Letter from the founder - August 2024 - Sprouts of Bristol
We have launched our first (hopefully monthly) ‘Letter from the Founder’ blog post. I talk about a string of bad luck, from water gushing from various ceilings in my life to a break-in, and also reflect on the incredible work we have done to win two awards earlier this year. I look ahead to what’s coming up in August, projects we are working on with our clients, and some thoughts about the rest of the year. And I give an insight into my brain, why I am who I am and why I’m so thankful for all the opportunities, passion and excitement that running Sprouts has given me as a founder and as a woman.
