Occasionally, you may find reused bubble wrap – this has been donated to us, and we encourage you to reuse it too.

Orders are usually packed and dispatched within 2–4 working days. We may occasionally delay dispatch during periods of extreme weather to protect your plants. We always prioritise plant health over speed of delivery.

We also offer local, bike-powered delivery in Bristol for £4.99 via Pedal Collective, a gentler option for plants and the planet.

A true showstopper, Alocasia cuprea ‘Red Secret’ is prized for its thick, metallic-looking leaves with deep ridges and an almost mirror-like sheen. The foliage appears almost unreal, with rich tones of deep green, bronze, and red that shift depending on the light. Compact in size but bold in presence, this Alocasia brings a dramatic, sculptural feel to any indoor plant collection.

Scientific Name
Alocasia cuprea (‘copper-coloured Alocasia’)

Common Name
Red Secret Alocasia, Mirror Plant

Origin
Native to Borneo, where it grows on the rainforest floor in warm, humid conditions.

Light
Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the leaves. Too little light may cause slower growth and less intense colouring.

Water
Keep the soil lightly moist but never soggy. Allow the top few centimetres of soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Reduce watering in winter, but do not allow the plant to dry out completely.

Humidity
Thrives in high humidity. Ideal for bathrooms, near a humidifier, or grouped with other plants. Low humidity can lead to crisping edges or leaf loss.

Soil
Use a well-draining, airy mix. A chunky aroid mix with bark, perlite, and compost works well to retain some moisture while allowing airflow to the roots.

Food
Feed every 2–3 waters during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertiliser. Reduce feeding in autumn and winter.

Temperature
Prefers temperatures between 18–27°C. Avoid temperatures below 15°C and keep away from cold drafts.

Pet-safe
Toxic if ingested, so keep out of reach of pets and children.

Sprouts Top Tips
If your Alocasia drops a leaf, don’t panic – it’s normal for older leaves to die off as new ones grow. Focus on consistent warmth, humidity, and watering to keep it happy.

Extras
This is a relatively compact Alocasia, making it perfect for smaller spaces while still delivering maximum visual impact.

Did You Know?
The metallic sheen of the leaves comes from the unique structure of the leaf surface, which reflects light in a way that gives it that signature “liquid metal” look.
