🌿 Our 7-day Plant Promise

Buying plants online can feel risky – that’s why every order comes with our 7-day Plant Promise.

If anything goes wrong in transit, just get in touch and we’ll help put it right.

Find out more here

Every plant is carefully packed by our small, plant-loving Bristol team using protective, mostly plastic-free packaging.

Occasionally, you may find reused bubble wrap – this has been donated to us, and we encourage you to reuse it too.

Orders are usually packed and dispatched within 2–4 working days. We may occasionally delay dispatch during periods of extreme weather to protect your plants. We always prioritise plant health over speed of delivery.

Delivery is £4.99 for any number of items, or free on orders over £60. We deliver across the UK only.

We also offer local, bike-powered delivery in Bristol for £4.99 via Pedal Collective, a gentler option for plants and the planet.

We believe in paying people fairly, that’s why we’ve been a Real Living Wage Employer from the very beginning. We’re an independent Bristol business, packing every order ourselves.

Supporting us means supporting fair work.

Questions before ordering? Just drop us a message – we’re always happy to help.

Bold and dramatic, Begonia ‘Ruby’ is a cane begonia prized for its deep green leaves scattered with silver spotting and rich ruby-red tones on the undersides and stems. This cultivated hybrid is grown for its striking colour contrast and sturdy growth, offering a slightly more compact and robust take on the classic polka dot begonia look. With the right care, it forms an upright, architectural plant that adds real presence to bright interiors.

Scientific Name
Begonia (Cane Group hybrid) ‘Ruby’

Often sold under trade names such as Begonia maculata ‘Ruby’, this plant is best understood as a maculata-derived cane begonia hybrid rather than a true Begonia maculata cultivar. It has been selected for colour, durability, and consistency in cultivation.

Synonyms
Frequently marketed as Begonia maculata ‘Ruby’ in commercial horticulture.

Common Name
Angel Wing Begonia, Polka Dot Begonia

Origin
Cultivated hybrid derived from cane begonias native to Brazil.

Light
Bright, indirect light is ideal. Good light helps maintain strong leaf colour and spotting. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves and cause fading.

Water
Water when the top few centimetres of compost feel dry. Keep the soil lightly moist but never soggy. Reduce watering in winter, allowing the compost to dry out a little more between waterings as growth slows.

Humidity
Prefers moderate humidity. Avoid misting the leaves directly; instead, use a pebble tray, group plants together, or place in a naturally humid but bright room.

Soil
Use a free-draining, peat-free houseplant compost with added grit or perlite. Good drainage is essential to prevent root problems.

Food
Feed every 2–3 waters during the growing season (spring through early autumn) with a balanced liquid houseplant feed. Pause feeding over winter.

Temperature
Thrives between 18–24°C. Keep away from cold draughts and avoid temperatures below 13°C.

Pet-safe
Toxic if ingested. Keep out of reach of pets and children.

Sprouts Top Tips
If leaf colour starts to dull or growth becomes leggy, your plant likely needs brighter light — move it closer to a window with filtered daylight.
