Gaura ‘Gambit Variegata Rose’ is a beautiful, compact perennial that brings months of effortless colour to the garden. Delicate, soft pink flowers dance above attractive variegated green and cream foliage from late spring until autumn, creating a light, airy display that moves gracefully in the breeze. Its long flowering season and elegant habit make it perfect for softening borders and adding movement to planting schemes.
This drought-tolerant variety is ideal for sunny borders, gravel gardens, wildlife gardens and containers. Easy to grow and low maintenance, it flowers continuously with very little effort and is a magnet for bees and butterflies throughout the summer.
Perennial
Semi-evergreen • Long Flowering • Variegated Foliage • Drought Tolerant • Pollinator Friendly • Great for Containers • Low Maintenance
Flowers
Masses of delicate rose-pink, butterfly-like flowers are produced on slender stems from late spring until the first frosts, creating an airy, floating display.
Foliage
Narrow green leaves edged with creamy white provide attractive variegation and add interest even when the plant is not in flower.
Scientific Name
Oenothera lindheimeri ‘Gambit Variegata Rose’
Synonyms
Gaura lindheimeri ‘Gambit Variegata Rose’
Common Name
Gaura, Beeblossom
Origin
Cultivar of a species native to southern North America, particularly Texas and Louisiana.
Pruning Tips
Remove spent flower stems regularly to encourage continuous flowering. Cut the plant back to around 10–15 cm above the ground in early spring before new growth begins.
Wildlife Value
An excellent nectar plant for bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects throughout its exceptionally long flowering season.
Positioning
Thrives in full sun and performs best in a warm, open position with plenty of light.
Water
Water regularly while establishing. Once established, it is drought tolerant and only needs additional watering during prolonged dry spells or when grown in containers.
Soil
Prefers fertile, well-drained soil and thrives in sandy, chalky or loamy soils. Avoid heavy, poorly drained ground.
Food
Feed with a balanced fertiliser in spring. Plants in containers can benefit from occasional liquid feeds throughout the flowering season.
Pet-safe
Generally considered non-toxic to cats, dogs and horses.
Sprouts Top Tips
This compact variety looks stunning planted in groups, where its airy flowers appear to float above neighbouring plants. Avoid overfeeding, as leaner soils encourage stronger flowering, and leave old growth over winter to help protect the crown before cutting back in spring.
