Add a splash of colour with this flowering Kalanchoe. This variety's mid-green succulent leaves are scattered with fantastic bright orange flowers, contrasting with the foliage colour and adding brightness to your home. In its native Madagascar, it flowers from September to June, but is often trained to flower at different times of year as a houseplant. It grows in cooler mountain plateaus so is perfectly happy with average household temperatures, even in winter, making it a great plant to spruce up your space with at any time of year. Let your eye be caught by this succulent's fabulous flowers, and keep growing it to keep that brightness in your home.

Scientific Name
Kalanchoe blossfeldiana (Blossfeld's plant where the parts that fall grow)

Common Name
Flaming Katy, Christmas Kalanchoe, Florist Kalanchoe, Madagascar Widow's-Thrill, Orange Flaming Katy

Origin
This Kalanchoe is native to cool mountain plateaus of Madagascar.

Light
Give your Kalanchoe some sun, but make sure it doesn't get lots of harsh midday or afternoon sun. A window facing East or West will give a good amount of light.

Water
Let the soil dry out between waters; the Kalanchoe's succulent leaves will start to look wrinkly when it gets thirsty, so if in doubt, wait until you see those signs of thirst.

Humidity
These plants are adapted to low humidity so as long as they're not too close to a hot radiator, average household humidity levels will be perfectly fine.

Soil
Use a well-draining mix with components such as sand and grit. A mix designed for cacti and succulents will work well here. Repot every three years in Spring as the plant grows.

Food
Feed once every few months with a fertiliser designed for cacti and succulents

Temperature
Ideal temperature is between 15-25°C; make sure it does not get colder than 12°C in winter.

Pet-safe
No, this plant is toxic to pets and small humans.
