Vibrant and joyful, the Pink Miltonia Orchid blooms with shades ranging from pale blush to rich magenta, often with contrasting centres or patterned lips. These pansy-like flowers bloom in sprays above slender, strap-like leaves, offering a playful and feminine accent to your indoor plant collection. Long-lasting blooms and a soft fragrance make it a lovely gift plant or feature on a well-lit shelf or windowsill.
Scientific Name
Miltonia spp. (Pink flowering cultivar)
Common Name
Pink Pansy Orchid, Miltonia Orchid (Pink)
Origin
Native to the tropical cloud forests of Brazil and surrounding regions, where they grow as epiphytes in humid, shaded conditions.
Light
Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid harsh midday sun which may scorch the leaves. A spot near an east-facing window or lightly shaded south-facing sill is ideal.
Water
Keep the potting medium evenly moist, but not soggy. Water thoroughly when the top of the medium begins to dry out. Miltonias are sensitive to drying out completely – avoid letting them go bone dry, especially when in bud or flower.
Humidity
Enjoys high humidity (50–70%). Use a pebble tray, room humidifier, or group with other plants to raise ambient moisture. Leaf tips may brown if conditions are too dry.
Soil
Use a fine-grade orchid bark mix – ideally one designed for epiphytic orchids, allowing excellent drainage and airflow around the roots.
Food
Feed every 2–3 weeks during the growing season with a balanced orchid fertiliser, diluted to half strength. Pause or reduce feeding in winter when growth slows.
Temperature
Thrives between 16–24°C. Prefers mild, stable temperatures and good airflow. Avoid cold draughts and sudden temperature drops.
Pet-safe
Yes – orchids, including Miltonia, are non-toxic to pets and humans.
Sprouts Top Tips
Once flowering finishes, trim spent stems just above the base and continue regular watering and feeding to support future blooms. Bright light and humidity will keep those pretty pink blooms coming year after year.
