Occasionally, you may find reused bubble wrap – this has been donated to us, and we encourage you to reuse it too.
Orders are usually packed and dispatched within 2–4 working days. We may occasionally delay dispatch during periods of extreme weather to protect your plants. We always prioritise plant health over speed of delivery.
Delivery is £4.99 for any number of items, or free on orders over £60. We deliver across the UK only.
We also offer local, bike-powered delivery in Bristol for £4.99 via Pedal Collective, a gentler option for plants and the planet.

Soft and woolly from top to bottom, Espostoa lanata is a truly huggable-looking cactus – but don’t be fooled! Its white, cottony hairs conceal fine, stiff spines beneath. This slow-growing, single-column cactus adds a charming vertical accent to any bright space and thrives with neglect.
Scientific Name
Espostoa lanata (lanata = “woolly”)
Synonyms
Sometimes confused with Cephalocereus senilis (a separate species from Mexico)
Common Name
Old Man Cactus (Peruvian), Woolly Cactus
Origin
Andean slopes of Peru and southern Ecuador
Light
Requires bright, direct light for several hours daily. South- or west-facing windows are ideal. Rotate regularly for even growth.
Water
Let soil dry out completely between waterings. Water deeply every 2–4 weeks in summer, and once a month or less in winter. Avoid getting the wool wet.
Humidity
Very low humidity preferred. Excellent airflow helps prevent rot in dense wool.
Soil
Plant in a gritty cactus mix with good drainage. Never use moisture-retentive compost.
Food
Feed monthly in spring and summer with cactus fertiliser. No feed needed in winter.
Temperature
Prefers 18–28°C. Tolerates down to 5°C if kept dry. Not frost-hardy.
Pet-safe
No – the spines can injure and the plant is mildly toxic if ingested.
Sprouts Top Tips
To keep the wool clean, dust with a dry brush rather than misting or wiping.
Extras
Rarely flowers indoors but may form a cephalium with age.
Did You Know?
Espostoa lanata’s thick coat reflects UV light, protecting the plant from sunburn at high altitudes.
