Scientific Name
Philodendron ‘McColley’s Finale’

(Philodendron = “tree lover” from Greek; ‘McColley’s Finale’ = hybrid cultivar named after horticulturist Don McColley)

Common Name
Sunset Philodendron, McColley’s Finale Philodendron

Origin
A cultivated hybrid developed for ornamental foliage, combining the vibrant colour traits of several Philodendron species.

Light
Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its rich leaf colours. Tolerates medium light but may lose some vibrancy. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can burn the delicate new leaves.

Water
Water when the top 3–5 cm of soil feels dry. Keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Water less frequently during winter months when growth naturally slows.

Humidity
Enjoys moderate to high humidity. Regular misting, grouping with other plants, or placing near a humidifier will support healthier, more vibrant foliage.

Soil
Use a well-draining aroid mix – a blend of indoor potting compost, orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir ensures healthy root development and moisture balance.

Food
Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertiliser diluted to half strength. No feeding needed in winter.

Temperature
Thrives between 18–26°C. Protect from cold draughts and avoid exposure to temperatures below 13°C.

Pet-safe
No – Philodendron species are toxic if ingested by pets and humans.

Sprouts Top Tips
Regularly remove older green leaves at the base to encourage fresh new colourful growth. Rotate the plant occasionally to maintain an even, symmetrical shape. For the boldest colours, place it somewhere consistently bright but shielded from direct midday sun.
