This attractive carnivorous plant forms soft, sticky rosettes that trap small insects on the leaf surface. Pinguicula ‘Weser’ is a Mexican hybrid butterwort, known for its pink-tinged leaves in bright light and its vibrant pink flowers held above the foliage on slender stems.
Scientific Name
Pinguicula ‘Weser’
Hybrid cultivar of Mexican Pinguicula species.
Common Name
Butterwort
Origin
Horticultural hybrid. Parent species originate from Mexico.
Light
Prefers bright, indirect light. A bright windowsill with gentle morning or evening sun is ideal. Strong light encourages compact growth, leaf colour, and flowering.
Water
Water with rainwater, distilled, or deionised water only. Keep the compost lightly moist but never waterlogged. Allow the surface of the compost to dry slightly between waterings. Do not stand permanently in water.
Humidity
Average household humidity is sufficient. Avoid very dry air from radiators or heaters.
Soil
Grow in a free-draining carnivorous plant compost suitable for Mexican butterworts. Never use standard houseplant compost.
Food
Does not require fertiliser. The plant feeds itself by catching small insects. Never add fertiliser to the soil.
Temperature
Prefers temperatures between 15–25°C. Protect from frost and cold draughts.
Pet-safe
Non-toxic, but leaves are delicate and easily damaged.
Sprouts Top Tips
In winter, this plant may form a smaller, less sticky rosette — this is normal. Reduce watering slightly and resume regular care as growth picks up in spring.
