Common Name(s)
Variegated Bugle Plant, Bugleweed

Origin
Native to Europe

Description
The Variegated Bugle Plant will form a mat of evergreen leaves in bright green with splotches of golden variegation, which are tinged pink when they first start to grow. It will bloom in late spring to summer, producing blue flowers in spikes over the foliage. They can grow up to half a metre in width and height over a period of 2-5 years, so pick a good spot and they'll keep growing and blooming!

Months of Interest
Blooms April to August; foliage is evergreen. Plant early-mid spring

Pruning Tips
No pruning needed; just snip any dried-out leaves if you get them

Wildlife Value
Early forage for bees. Flowers are a great source of nectar for moths and butterflies too!

Positioning
Full sun to partial shade, prefers a sheltered spot.

Water
Water only in dry weather

Soil
Moist, free-draining soil

Food
In less nutrient-rich soil, fertilise every couple of weeks with a balanced fertiliser.

Pet-safe?
Yes, although a lot of nibbling won't be good for your furry friend or the plant!

Sprouts Top Tips
If your soil is especially wet, keep an eye out for powdery mildew or rot; look out for powdery white fungus on the leaves.
