Common Name(s)
Elephant Ear, Heart of Jesus, Angel Wings, Red Caladium

Cultivated variety bred from species native to the Amazon Basin in South America.

Light
Bright, indirect light indoors. Outdoors, grow in shade or dappled light. Avoid harsh direct sun which may scorch the red foliage.

Water
Water when the top third of the soil has dried. Keep moist in the growing season but reduce in autumn and winter.

Humidity
Loves high humidity – mist, use a pebble tray, or place near a humidifier to prevent crisping edges.

Soil
Moisture-retentive, organic-rich soil that drains well. Repot every 2–3 years.

Food
Feed every 4 waters in the growing season, reducing to every 6 as growth slows.

Temperature
Best at 18–30°C; avoid below 10°C.

Pet-safe
No – toxic to pets and humans if ingested.

Sprouts Top Tips
Pair ‘Scarlet Flame’ with green or white caladiums for maximum contrast. Like all caladiums, it will die back in autumn – save the tubers for regrowth in spring.
