Soil Mix Recommendation

A truly eye-catching collector’s hybrid, Anthurium luxurians × radicans combines the best of both parent plants: the intense, pebbled texture and deep green gloss of A. luxurians with the compact, creeping habit of A. radicans. Its thick, corrugated leaves resemble embossed leather, making it a standout foliage plant in any indoor jungle. Perfect for terrariums or warm, humid corners, this hybrid thrives in bright, filtered light and high humidity.

Scientific Name
Anthurium luxurians × radicans (a cultivated interspecific hybrid – not a naturally occurring species)

Synonyms
Sometimes referred to in trade as “luxurians hybrid” or “radicans hybrid.” Not to be confused with Anthurium radicans ‘Luxurians’ – this is a true cross between species.

Common Name
Luxurians-Radicans Hybrid, Textured Anthurium, Collector’s Anthurium

Origin
Cultivated hybrid.

A. luxurians originates from Colombia and is known for its large, highly textured foliage.

A. radicans is native to Brazil and is a creeping epiphyte with cordate (heart-shaped) leaves.

This hybrid inherits the corrugated texture and compact form, making it well-suited for indoor growing.

Light
Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can damage the thick but sensitive foliage. Ideal near an east or north-facing window or under grow lights.

Water
Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Keep lightly moist but never soggy – this plant dislikes extremes. Reduce watering in winter. Use lukewarm water to avoid shocking the roots.

Humidity
Loves high humidity (60–80%). Perfect for terrariums or bathrooms. Use a humidifier or pebble tray if needed – crispy edges on new growth may indicate it needs more moisture.

Soil
Use a very well-aerated aroid mix – a combination of orchid bark, perlite, coco chips, and peat-free compost works well. This hybrid enjoys good airflow at the root level.

Food
Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season with a gentle, balanced fertiliser. Overfeeding can lead to leaf burn, so dilute more than usual for sensitive foliage.

Temperature
Ideal temperature range is 18–26°C. Protect from cold draughts and never allow the temperature to drop below 15°C.

Pet-safe
No – toxic if ingested by pets or humans.

Sprouts Top Tips
This hybrid prefers stable conditions – sudden changes in humidity or watering may affect new leaves. To keep growth compact and lush, avoid letting the plant dry out too much, and maintain consistently high humidity.
