Soil Mix Recommendation

A true showstopper, Anthurium veitchii is prized for its long, deeply corrugated leaves that cascade dramatically as the plant matures. Often called the King Anthurium, this species brings serious jungle energy into your home, with foliage that can grow impressively large under the right conditions. Each leaf develops more pronounced rippling over time, making it a rewarding plant to grow and watch evolve.

Scientific Name
Anthurium veitchii (named after the Veitch nursery family, renowned Victorian plant collectors and horticulturists)

Common Name
King Anthurium

Origin
Native to Colombia, where it grows as an epiphyte in warm, humid rainforest canopies

Light
Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the leaves. Too little light may result in slower growth and less pronounced leaf texture

Water
Keep the soil consistently lightly moist but not soggy. Allow the top layer to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering in winter but do not let it dry out completely

Humidity
Thrives in high humidity. Best suited to bathrooms, kitchens, or near a humidifier. Aim for 60% or higher for optimal growth

Soil
Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix with bark, perlite, and organic matter to allow airflow around the roots

Food
Feed every 2–4 weeks during the growing season with a diluted balanced fertiliser. Reduce feeding in winter

Temperature
Prefers warm temperatures between 18–28°C. Avoid temperatures below 15°C and protect from cold drafts

Pet-safe
Toxic if ingested, so keep out of reach of pets and children

Sprouts Top Tips
If you want those signature long, rippled leaves, focus on consistency. Stable warmth, high humidity, and steady watering will make all the difference as new leaves emerge.
