This colourful tropical pitcher plant is prized for its richly tinted pitchers, which range from green to deep red as they mature. A vigorous and adaptable hybrid, it produces long, arching leaves with prominent hanging traps, making it both decorative and functional. Well suited to bright indoor spaces, this variety is an excellent introduction to Nepenthes care.

Scientific Name
Nepenthes sanguinea hybrid

Common Name
Tropical Pitcher Plant

Origin
Hybrid originating from Nepenthes sanguinea, native to Southeast Asia.

Light
Bright, indirect light. Good light levels help encourage strong growth and deeper pitcher colouring.

Water
Keep compost evenly moist at all times using rainwater, distilled water, or deionised water only. Never allow the plant to sit in standing water.

Humidity
Enjoys higher humidity, which supports healthy pitcher development. Suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, or naturally humid rooms.

Soil
Use a free-draining carnivorous plant compost, typically sphagnum-based. Standard compost is unsuitable.

Food
No fertiliser required. The plant feeds itself by trapping insects. Never add food or fertiliser.

Temperature
Best grown between 18–28°C. Protect from cold conditions and draughts.

Pet-safe
Non-toxic, though pitchers may trap insects.

Sprouts Top Tips
Pitcher colour intensifies over time with good light – be patient with new growth.
