This delightful, long-flowering perennial produces clouds of small daisy-like blooms that open white and gradually blush pink with age, giving a multi-toned effect that’s loved by gardeners and pollinators alike. Erigeron karvinskianus ‘Profusion’ is a compact, free-flowering variety that thrives in cracks, crevices, and sunny spots, bringing a soft, romantic feel to cottage gardens, gravel paths, and pots.

Erigeron karvinskianus ‘Profusion’, commonly known as Mexican Fleabane, is perfect for softening hard edges and tumbling over walls or containers. It self-seeds gently without becoming invasive, making it ideal for naturalistic planting schemes.

Erigeron karvinskianus ‘Profusion’ (named for Wilhelm Friedrich Karwinski von Karwin, a 19th-century Hungarian naturalist and plant collector)

Erigeron mucronatus, Stenactis karvinskiana (historical synonyms)

Common Name
Mexican Fleabane, Santa Barbara Daisy

Native to Mexico and Central America; naturalised in many parts of Europe

Pruning Tips
Trim back lightly after the first flush of flowers to encourage fresh growth and more blooms. Cut back more thoroughly in late autumn or early spring if needed.

Wildlife Value
Excellent nectar source for bees, butterflies, and hoverflies.

Positioning
Loves full sun and thrives in poor, dry soils. Ideal for wall planting, gravel gardens, container edges, and paving cracks.

Water
Drought tolerant once established. Water young plants until settled, then only during prolonged dry spells.

Soil
Well-drained soil is essential – prefers sandy, chalky, or gritty soils. Avoid heavy or waterlogged ground.

Food
Not a heavy feeder – too much fertiliser can reduce flowering. A light mulch in spring is usually sufficient.

Pet-safe
Non-toxic and safe for pets.

Sprouts Top Tips
Don’t be afraid to let it wander – this plant is happiest when allowed to self-seed into unexpected corners and soften the lines of a space with its airy blooms.
